Princes William and Harry play polo

Britain’s Princes William and Harry went head-to-head in a polo match at the weekend.

The royal brothers took part in the De Beers Diamond Jewellers Royal Charity Polo Cup at the Billingbear Polo Club in Berkshire, South East England on Sunday (11.05.14) in a bid to raise money for good causes.

William – dressed in white trousers and a black top – captained the Baku Guards team and played alongside professionals Simon Holland, Lyndon Lea and world number one player Facundo Pieres, while his younger brother headed the King Power team, playing alongside Gonzalito Pieres and Thai players Aiyawatt ‘Top’ Srivaddhanaprabha and Talapichet ‘Ton’ Srivaddhanaprabha.

Baku Guards’ patron Nasib Piriev said: "It is our utmost privilege to have Prince William playing for us on this special occasion".

Around 300 guests watched the game, which ended in a 6-6 draw.

William and Harry were praised for their skills, with Luke Tomlinson, captain of the England polo quartet saying he felt both princes would have been good enough to represent their country if they had had enough time to devote to the sport.

He said: "Both their Royal Highnesses are excellent sports people and very good polo players, naturally."

After the match, the brothers joined spectators at a lavish dinner at the polo club, and guests were also invited to take part in an auction to raise money for charities including HALO, ESSA, England and Wales Mountain Rescue and Walking With The Wounded, which had all been chosen by the royals.
