Shelley King receives Best Actress nod

Shelley King and Emma Atkins are among the Best Actress nominations for this year’s Inside Soap Awards.

The ‘Coronation Street’ and ‘Emmerdale’ actresses – who play Yasmeen Metcalfe and Charity Dingle on their respective soaps – have been named on the longlist in the Best Actress category.

Digital Spy has revealed the full field for the prize, with another 10 stars making up the rest of the nominees.

Shelley’s ‘Corrie’ co-stars Jane Danson (Leanne Battersby) and Sally Carman (Abi Franklin) are in with a shot, while ‘Emmerdale’ actresses Lisa Riley (Mandy Dingle) and Natalie J. Robb (Moira Dingle) join Emma on the longlist.

Also listed in the category are ‘EastEnders’ trio Jessica Plummer (Chantelle Atkins), Shona McGarty (Whitney Dean) and Kellie Bright (Linda Carter).

Jessica finds herself in the running as she prepares for her Albert Square exit, with her character set to be killed off as part of her harrowing domestic abuse storyline.

She recently said: "It’s important to show that this is still domestic abuse, even though it doesn’t look like the typical cowering-in-a-corner, locked-in-a-room versions.

"To the outside world, Gray is charismatic, he’s charming, he’s successful – he’s perhaps not the typical person that is portrayed in domestic abuse storylines."

‘Hollyoaks’ will be represented by Jessica Fox (Nancy Osborne), Jennifer Metcalfe (Mercedes McQueen) and Kelle Bryan (Martine Devereaux).

For this year’s ceremony, there will be 13 categories for fans to vote on, including a new Feel-Good Moment award for 2020.

The longlist is to be revealed in full on Tuesday (15.09.20) as the new issue of Inside Soap hits the shelves, and that’s when everyone will be open to cast their vote.

The ceremony itself takes place on November 16, but there will be some changes for this year’s edition.

Given the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, organisers will be pushing ahead with the event as a virtual ceremony streamed online, rather than the usual physical gathering.
