Sue Barker set to leave A Question of Sport

Sue Barker is leaving ‘A Question of Sport’ as part of a major overhaul.

The 64-year-old TV presenter has hosted the long-running sports quiz for the last 23 years, but she is now being moved on by the BBC, which has also decided to axe team captains Matt Dawson and Phil Tufnell.

A source told the Sunday Mirror newspaper: "It is a big shock."

Sue joined the show back in 1997, when she replaced commentator David Coleman.

Matt, 47, and Phil, 54, have been the team captains for 16 and 12 years, respectively.

The trio are set to record their last episode of the show later this month.

A spokesperson for the BBC said: "We would like to thank Sue for her enormous contribution as the show’s longest reigning host and Matt and Phil for their excellent captaincy.

"Together they have ensured ‘A Question of Sport’ remains a firm favourite with BBC One audiences."

The quiz show first aired back in 1970 and has only had three hosts in its entire history, starting with David Vine.

Sue has become a successful TV presenter since retiring from professional tennis in 1984, and she previously admitted to loving her role on ‘A Question of Sport’.

The former Grand Slam-winning star – who also hosts the BBC’s coverage of Wimbledon – said: "’QS’ has been such a huge part of my life, from watching it with my family growing up through my tennis-playing days, and then, of course, as the presenter."
