Prince Charles and Camilla to mark D-Day in France

Britain’s Prince Charles and Duchess of Cornwall are due to attend D-Day events in France.

The couple have revealed they will be travelling to Normandy next month to help mark the 70th anniversary of the historic D-Day landings on June 6, 1944.

They will travel to the northern region of France for two days to pay tribute to the Allied troupes who fought and died on the beaches.

Charles and Camilla are going to meet with World War II veterans and attend the Royal British Legion Service of Remembrance at Bayeux Cathedral, followed by the Service of Remembrance at Bayeux War Graves Cemetery.

They will also join guests at the Ceremony of Remembrance, held at Colleville-Montgomery-Plage, to commemorate the Normandy landings, as well as a similar ceremony at the Juno Beach Centre, Courseulles-sur-Mer.

Charles is expected to undertake some solo engagements, including presenting a bust of Major Jack Watson MC to the Commune of Ranville on behalf of the Parachute Regiment.

The Prince of Wales – who is the Colonel in Chief of the Parachute Regiment – will attend a commemorative parachute drop by representatives of British, American, French and Canadian Armed Forces, followed by an evening reception.

Other high profile guests at the D-Day commemorations will include US President Barack Obama and Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott.
