Ray Quinn apologised to Hollyoaks supporting artists for character’s comments

Ray Quinn used to apologise to Hollyoaks’ supporting artists for his far-right extremist character’s lines.

The former ‘X Factor’ star played Jonny Baxter on the Channel 4 soap from 2018 to 2019, but he admitted it was hard to say some of his lines at times because his character had such radical views.

He said: "There were a lot of days where you would get on set and you’d have to say the lines and the supporting artists would be sitting there, not knowing the lines.

"And you’d have to say them out loud and be like, ‘I’m really sorry.’ "

Ray’s character and his partner in crime Stuart Sumner (Chris Simmons) set about radicalising Ste Hay (Kieron Richardson), only for Ste to eventually hit back and Stuart was pushed off a cliff to his death by his son Sid Sumner (Billy Price).

Former ‘Brookside’ star Ray admitted it was "tough" to play his ‘Oaks’ character at times.

Speaking on ‘Lorraine’, he said: "That was another challenge. I’d never done a role in that way.

"I hadn’t done to the extent that it was, playing far-right extremist Jonny.

"It was tough."

In December, Ray admitted he would "love" to return to ‘Hollyoaks’.

He said: "I’ve just finished it [‘Hollyoaks’]. Whether I’m back, I’m not sure.

"That’s in their hands, but I would love to return."

And he previously admitted the soap role had been an "opportunity of a lifetime".

He said: "In the most part it’s been positive and I’m really pleased to have been part of it. Plus, getting cast for something that I wouldn’t usually have been considered for, after being in the West End and on reality TV, is an opportunity of a lifetime.

"Having the opportunity from [executive producer] Bryan Kirkwood to be cast in such a way is a chance to prove myself as an actor again."
