Carol Smillie: I’d return to TV for Changing Rooms

Carol Smillie would return to television for ‘Changing Rooms’.

The 58-year-old host – who fronted the DIY show from 1996 to 2003 – was last seen on TV when she presented ‘Finding Scotland’s Real Heroes’ in 2013, but she would be willing to reprise her role on the home improvement makeover show if it returns to the small screen.

She told The Sun newspaper: "It was definitely the favourite show of my career, without a doubt. It would be the only show I’d come back to telly for."

The programme – which originally aired on BBC – looks set for a potential comeback and a new home on Channel 4, with bosses said to be keen to bring back Carol and 55-year-old interior designer Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen.

A source said this week: "’Changing Rooms’ was something of a phenomenon, spawning a long line of copycat makeover shows and it still retains a cult following.

"Not only did it spawn a long line of copycat makeover shows, it still retains a cult following among a whole generation of fans.

"C4 execs would like to tap back into some of that telly magic and exploit the current nostalgia for bygone shows."

The show gained a cult fan base over its eight-year stint on the Beeb, with one memorable moment seeing Laurence decorating a couple’s room with animal print and a red carpet.

However, the husband was less than impressed and insisted it looked like a "w****’* palace".

Regarding a potential revival, a Channel 4 spokeswoman confirmed the broadcaster was looking into the possibility, although "nothing" is set in stone just yet.
