Changing Rooms ‘set for Channel 4 revival’

‘Changing Rooms’ could be set to make a return on Channel 4.

The home improvement makeover show – which initially aired on the BBC from 1996 to 2004 – looks set for a potential comeback and a new home, with bosses said to be keen to bring back host Carol Smillie, 58, and 55-year-old interior designer Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen.

A source told The Sun newspaper: "’Changing Rooms’ was something of a phenomenon, spawning a long line of copycat makeover shows and it still retains a cult following.

"Not only did it spawn a long line of copycat makeover shows, it still retains a cult following among a whole generation of fans.

"C4 execs would like to tap back into some of that telly magic and exploit the current nostalgia for bygone shows."

The show gained a cult fan base over its eight year stint on the Beeb, with one memorable moment seeing Laurence decorating a couple’s room with animal print and a red carpet.

However, the husband was less than impressed and insisted it looked like a "w****’* palace".

Regarding a potential revival, a Channel 4 spokeswoman confirmed the broadcaster was looking into the possibility, although "nothing" is set in stone just yet.

She said: "We are exploring the idea, but nothing is confirmed."

The report comes after it was revealed the network is bringing back ‘The Big Breakfast’ as part of its Black Takeover Day in 2021, with comedian Mo Gilligan as host.

He recently said: "Like so many of us, I loved ‘The Big Breakfast’ and I am so grateful to be asked to host this special event, particularly as part of such a hugely thrilling and history-making day for British television."
