Love Island bosses to launch new series The Cabins

‘Love Island’ bosses have come up with a new dating series called ‘The Cabins’.

After ITV2 was forced to scrap both the summer and winter editions of the hit show due to the coronavirus pandemic, the channel is set to launch a brand new format which will see singletons stay the night in a cabin in the middle of nowhere in the UK with potential suitors.

The couples will face 24 hours without a smartphone in a bid to truly connect with their date.

A source told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre TV column; "Bosses are going back to basics with ‘The Cabin’.

"Set away from the distractions of modern life, two singletons will have to spend time together and properly get to know each other without a profile on a dating app.

"After 24 hours together they will be able to decide whether they stay together for a bit longer, or move on to someone new.

"If they remain as a couple for up to four days, we then give some other singles the chance to enter the cabin and potentially meet their Mr or Miss Right."

On when the show will hit screens, the source added: "They’ll start filming in the next few months as they’re casting now and it will air in the new year."

The decision to scrap the summer and winter editions of ‘Love Island’ came amid ongoing uncertainty relating to the coronavirus pandemic.

Pre-production on the winter 2021 series was due to take place this summer, but due to social distancing measures, the series proed to be impossible to stage.

Kevin Lygo, ITV’s director of television, previously conceded it simply wasn’t possible to shoot the summer edition of the show in the midst of the health crisis.

Speaking earlier this year, he explained: "We have tried every which way to make ‘Love Island’ this summer but logistically it’s just not possible to produce it in a way that safeguards the wellbeing of everyone involved and that for us is the priority.

"In normal circumstances we would be preparing very soon to travel out to the location in Mallorca to get the villa ready but clearly that’s now out of the question.

"We are very sorry for fans of the show but making it safely is our prime concern and ‘Love Island’ will be back stronger than ever in 2021."

The first-ever winter ‘Love Island’ was won by Paige Turley and Finn Tapp and aired in January.
