Alex Jones devastated after The One Show colleague’s death

Alex Jones has been left "devastated" following the death of one of her ‘The One Show’ colleagues.

The 43-year-old presenter took some time at the end of Monday’s show (24.08.20) to pay tribute to BBC researcher Charlie Mott, who suddenly died at the weekend.

Closing the episode, Alex told viewers: "Now, before we go, we just wanted to pay tribute to one of our colleagues Charlie Mott, who sadly died at the weekend.

"Everybody on the team is absolutely devastated. He was hugely talented and such good company. We miss him so much."

Trying to fight back the tears, the star added: "Our thoughts are with his family and we are sending lots of love from all of us here."

Instead of the usual upbeat closing credits, the chat show ended with a moment of silence.

Other members of ‘The One Show’ have taken to Twitter to pay their respects.

One wrote: "There are no words. We love you so much Charlie."

Another tweeted: "Will miss you buddy x. (sic)"

A cause of death for Charlie, who graduated from Bournemouth University in 2017, has yet to be publicly revealed.

Shortly after the show, viewers took to the social media site to send their condolences to Charlie’s family and co-workers.

One tweeted: "Thoughts and prayers are with the family of Charlie mott, your colleague RIP CHARLIE (sic)"

Another wrote: "How very sad – RIP Charlie. (sic)"

This comes just weeks after Roman Kemp took some time off his Capital FM Breakfast Show following the death of the programme’s producer Joe Lyons.

Paying tribute to Joe on the show, Roman said: "I never thought I’d have to do this ever. Last Tuesday, very suddenly, we lost one of our best friends. Our producer Joe, he was a member of the Capital Breakfast family.

"He was not just part of the Capital Breakfast family but a loved member of the whole team."
