Kimberly Hart-Simpson ‘completely over-acted’ in first Corrie audition

Kimberly Hart-Simpson "completely over-acted" in her first ‘Coronation Street’ audition.

The model and actress – who recently joined the ITV soap as sex worker Nicky Wheatley – admitted her first "hammy" attempt at landing a cobbles role didn’t exactly go to plan.

She told Inside Soap magazine: "My first ever audition for Coronation Street was probably about 10 years ago, when I’d just finished drama school.

"I completely over-acted! I was so hammy because I couldn’t understand the difference between doing theatre and TV.

"But with the role of Nicky, I only auditioned once – I just walked into the room and thought, ‘I’m having this one!’ "

A decade later, Kimberly "felt really powerful and happy" as she arrived to audition for the role of Nicky.

She added: "It was great. I felt really powerful and happy when I was in there. Maybe that’s why I ended up getting the role because I was so relaxed about it.

"For the first time, I knew my future happiness didn’t depend on getting this one job."

Kimberly’s alter ego has been growing closer to Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard) since she arrived in Weatherfield in mid-June, but the star was "scared" the ITV soap’s bosses might pull her plot due ot the coronavirus lockdown.

She previously said: "I was a bit worried, especially playing a sex worker. I thought, ‘Will they cut this storyline because it just can’t happen right now?’

"It was a bit scary as I’d worked so relentlessly to get here, but I knew that there’s always a bigger picture to be considered.

"Luckily, ‘Corrie’ bosses were true to their word, and fully committed to this story."
