‘Spitting Image’ will be "much ruder" than before when it returns on BritBox UK.
The popular satirical puppet show – which aired on ITV from 1984 to 1996 – will be the platform’s first original commission later this year, and airing on the online service gives the team more scope to take the crude humour even further than ever.
Former producer John Lloyd – who has had a sneak peak at the new series – told The Oldie magazine: "There are some hilarious bits… much ruder than any terrestrial channel would allow."
The original programme’s co-creator Roger Law is back for the new show – which will air on BBC and ITV’s joint service – and he previously promised something "more outrageous, audacious and salacious than the previous incarnation".
The likes of Russian leader Vladimir Putin, Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, his advisor Dominic Cummings, singer Adele, environmentalist Greta Thunberg and Liverpool football boss Jurgen Klopp are all set to feature in puppet form.
‘Spitting Image’ ran for a total of 18 series, and several real-life stars were mocked in puppet form, including Margaret Thatcher, Paul Gascoigne, Sir John Major, Michael Heseltine, Ronald Reagan, and Sir Mick Jagger.
BritBox subscribers will be able to watch ‘Spitting Image’ on the service from autumn this year, and a second series will follow in 2021.
Making the announcement back in March, Roger added: "We will take back control from the likes of BoJo, Trump, Harry & Meghan, Elon Musk, and Kim Kardashian. We will be dazzled and amazed by Jurgen Klopp and Beyonce, we will have regular weather updates from our roving reporter Greta Thunberg.
"The timing is right, the puppets are ready, the people have spoken. And the message for the doomsayers and gloomsters is, this autumn we will get BritBox done!"
