Vicky McClure doesn’t know when Line of Duty filming will get back underway

Vicky McClure has no idea when production will resume for ‘Line of Duty’.

The 37-year-old actress – who plays Detective Inspector Kate Fleming alongside co-stars Martin Compston (Detective Sergeant Steve Arnott) and Adrian Dunbar (Superintendent Ted Hastings) – has commented on the immediate future of the BBC drama, with fans wondering when the series will return for its sixth season.

Speaking during an Instagram Q&A, she said: "There are no dates to get back."

Despite Vicky, Martin and Adrian taking centre stage on the show, she insisted the trio have never felt like the programme belongs to them.

She explained: "Every year there’s, like, a new gang because they come with a guest star.

"It never feels like it’s mine, Adrian’s and Martin’s show.

"We have a guest star come in, a whole new batch of people in. They just love it. We have a really fun time on set."

Filming for the upcoming sixth series is on hold, and ‘Line of Duty’ creator Jed Mercurio recently admitted the coronavirus pandemic could have a wider impact on the next run.

He said: "We’re all considering [a rewrite].

"We shot for four weeks in a pre-lockdown world, and all that material would have to be re-shot if we were going to change things. That would have huge cost implications, but we are considering it."

Jed has also ruled out making a US reboot of the hit drama, as he feels American viewers would rather have their own "homegrown thing".

He suggested: "I think that if you look at the American television market it is so much larger than ours and there are so many more people pitching ideas that the idea of something set in what they call ‘internal affairs’ has been pitched repeatedly.

"It’s not something that hasn’t been explored in pilots and by the writers who really know that world, it’s just that there hasn’t been a successful series."
