Steven Arnold took a ‘big wooden pig’ from Coronation Street set

Steven Arnold was handed a "big wooden pig" as a memento of his time on ‘Coronation Street’.

The 45-year-old actor – who starred as Ashley Peacock in the long-running soap – has revealed he took a bizarre item from the set when he left the show in 2010.

He shared: "They said, ‘Is there anything you’d like?’ And I’d always said I’d like the pig, there’s a pig in the butchers.

"A big wooden pig, we used to lean on it and talk and when I left there was a surprise in my dressing room and as I walked in, I jumped out my skin – there was a massive pig waiting for me!"

Steven also revealed he still has mixed feelings about his ‘Coronation Street’ exit.

The actor left the programme ten years ago, as part of the show’s 50th anniversary celebrations.

Steven – whose character was killed-off in an explosion – told ‘This Morning’: "It’s a bit of a weird feeling really because you’re excited to go on different things but it’s sad to say goodbye to all your friends you’ve worked so closely with for such a long time."

Despite this, the actor was pleased he was able to exit the show in style.

He reflected: "It was absolutely superb to go like that.

"I always said if I was going to leave I never wanted to leave in the back of a taxi.

"What a way to go, the 50th anniversary live episode and like you say, they spent a lot of money on that episode and I really enjoyed it."
