Brian Capron says Richard Hillman’s death scene was ‘incredible’

Brian Capron thinks his James Bond-style death scene in ‘Coronation Street’ was "absolutely incredible".

The 73-year-old actor played the iconic serial killer Richard Hillman in the ITV soap from 2001 to 2003, and Brian has admitted to being wowed by his character’s dramatic canal scene.

Brian – whose character was attempting to drown his step-family – told ‘This Morning’: "A Bond stunt scene put that together. When they told me I was going to die in a canal, I thought it would be a bit boring but it was absolutely incredible.

"We were the first soap to ever shoot underwater – that was the money shot really, we did it in a special tank."

Although Brian loved the final scene, he admitted it was incredibly tough to put together.

He recalled: "We actually used five cars for the whole sequence, we were there for two or three days underwater.

"The crash was shot overnight and I remember I was put in a body bag, which was pretty horrible."

Brian previously admitted he still gets called a "murderer" by ‘Coronation Street’ fans.

The former soap star confessed that his on-screen character still follows him around wherever he goes.

Speaking in 2019, Brian shared: "It’s wonderful to still get recognised after all these years.

"I was at an airport in Majorca and this guy just walks past and says ‘murderer’ under his breath.

"There will be others who will shout across the street or those who are genuinely taken aback when they realise it’s the Street’s serial killer Richard Hillman on their train or in the same restaurant as them. It always makes me laugh."
