Dr Hilary Jones taking break from GMB

Dr Hilary Jones is taking a break from ‘Good Morning Britain’.

The in-house medical expert has spent the past four months giving viewers daily updates on coronavirus, but as the country eases from lockdown Hilary has announced he will be taking some time off.

Appearing on the ITV morning show on Thursday (16.07.20) alongside Charlotte Hawkins and Adil Ray, the presenters praised him for his good work during the pandemic.

Adil gushed: "Where would we be without him? He’s just told me he’s off next week! You can’t leave."

Hilary confirmed: "’I just thought I’d have a little break."

The 67-year-old GP made his announcement shortly after ‘GMB’ presenters Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid left the show for their two-month summer break last week.

They will both be back to their presenting duties in September, but before he left, Piers took some time to thank the team for their hard work during the pandemic.

He said: "I do want to say to the backroom team here I think that … we sit here and we have done for months going through this extraordinary story, it has been the biggest story of any of our lifetimes with many repercussions.

"But, behind the scenes of ‘Good Morning Britain’, there is this enormous team of people all of who have been working unbelievable hours, a lot of self-sacrifices, not seeing families and so on."

The 55-year-old presenter also praised "pandemic pin-up" Dr. Hilary for his "trusted" advice on the virus.

Piers said: "And, in particular, to the Doc, Dr Hilary, because he is the pandemic pin-up.

"He is the most trusted man in world television right now, which is a lot of responsibility, but Doc you have been in, day in day out without a break not just on our show, on Lorraine’s, for months and months."
