The Cube reboot ‘gets £1M cash prize’

‘The Cube’ is getting a £1 million jackpot prize and two-player challenges.

After Phillip Schofield – who hosted the game show from 2009 to 2015 – confirmed the ITV series is set to be rebooted, it’s now been claimed that contestants can expect a seven-figure cash prize as the show’s producers felt it would increase the "tension" among players by going head-to-head for major money.

‘The Cube’ originally featured a single contestant each time, who had to complete a series of mental and physical challenges inside a Perspex cube, with a maximum prize offering of £250,000.

However, this time they are planning two-player games with both contestants coming from the same household to abide by social distancing rules.

An insider told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre TV column: "The last time The Cube aired was in 2015, so there was no way ITV would bring it back without making some radical changes to refresh the show.

"The former jackpot was £250,000, and since the show is also about coping with tension, they felt having a seven-figure sum at stake would increase that even further.

"But the simple format at the heart of the show remains largely unchanged — it’s still about contestants desperately trying to keep their cool."

Confirming the game show’s return, Phillip said earlier this month: "Yes!!! Game on! Can you Beat the Cube?"

The ‘This Morning’ co-host had posted a calling card for contestants to take part, which read: "’The Cube’ is returning to ITV for a brand-new series and this time the challenge is bigger than ever.

"You could be in with the chance of winning a huge cash prize.

"We’re looking for competitive teams of two people from the same household/ household support bubble (partners, parent & child, siblings etc or flatmates/friends) with a mix of abilities and personalities.

"Remember, there are no general knowledge questions to answer. The Cube will set you and your teammate a series of physical and mental challenges for the chance to win a life-changing amount of money!

"Can you work together to take on the ultimate TV gameshow challenge? Can you and your teammate beat The Cube?"

It has also been suggested the programme’s return will be similar to that of ‘Who Wants to be a Millionaire?’, with a series of specials running back to back over consecutive evenings.
