Netflix removes Derry Girls season 2 days after launch

Netflix has had to remove the second season of ‘Derry Girls’ after releasing the series too soon.

Many fans were delighted about the arrival of the latest series, but just five days later it has disappeared with the streaming platform confirming they were too eager with the launch.

In a post on its UK and Ireland Twitter page on Tuesday (14.07.20), Netflix said: "It looks like we were a bit early with this one so have had to take season two down for now.

"We’ll let you know when it’s coming back as soon as we can. In the meantime, it’s available now on All 4."

The second run of the hit Channel 4 sitcom aired in March last year, before arriving on the streaming service on Thursday (09.07.20), which apepears to have been an error.

Meanwhile, fans could have to wait longer for the highly anticipated third series after Nicola Coughlan confirmed production had been delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The actress – who plays Claire on the show – recently said: "We were meant to start filming around now. It was mad because when this all started, I think your brain makes assumptions to make you feel better, like ‘it’ll just be a month, it’ll be fine’.

"But filming has been put on hold for now which sucks, and we’re all really excited to go back and start again and see the scripts because we actually haven’t."

The cast last got together for the second series two years ago, and they have remained close during their time apart.

Nicola added: "We made the second series back in 2018, so it’s been a long time since we’ve been together filming.

"There’s tentative dates when we hope to go back but we don’t really know at the minute."
