The Great British Bake Off to resume filming

‘The Great British Bake Off’ will resume production this month.

The Channel 4 baking show – which is judged by Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith – is expected to start shooting again later this month, after filming was postponed as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

It is said the contestants will be put in quarantine for 14 days before filming starts, in the hope production can have the series ready for a small screen this autumn.

A TV insider told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "If one person goes down with coronavirus, then everyone on set has to quarantine, the whole production is thrown into jeopardy and it’s a massive risk for small companies to take.

"We are hoping that the government and big broadcasters will step up and carry some of that risk. We can’t physically do it without insurance."

It comes after bosses weren’t sure whether or not they would be able to film the show for this year’s slot, but were working "very hard" to ensure everyone’s safety.

A spokesperson said at the time: "We are working hard to deliver ‘Bake Off’ to the audience this year, the priority is the safety of everyone involved in the production of the series."

Meanwhile, a number of other fan favourites are set to resume production, including ‘Death in Paradise’ and ‘Line of Duty’, which is due to start filming again in Belfast next month.

ITV are also said to be thinking ahead by holding talks about potentially pushing back the finales of ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ and ‘The Voice’ until the autumn.
