Daisy Edgar-Jones worked with intimacy coach before shooting sex scenes

Daisy Edgar-Jones thinks her sex scenes in ‘Normal People’ are "amazing".

The 22-year-old actress worked with intimacy expert Ita O’Brien before shooting her steamy scenes with Paul Mescal, and she thinks the approach helped her to overcome self-doubts.

Daisy said: "It was an amazing process. I can’t believe that it’s not been the norm for a very long time because it feels like I don’t know how else you would go about doing those scenes.

"They are integral to telling the story of a relationship between two people as they grow up. The physical side of things is an incredibly important part of that."

Daisy also thinks working with an intimacy coach helped to make her steamy sex scenes appear more believable.

She shared: "We discussed at length with her what exactly we were trying to communicate with each moment.

"We would discuss what each other was comfortable with day to day so you never felt like you were going to overstep anybody’s boundaries. Weirdly, we were kind of more free, because of the structure that was put in place.

"When we were filming … we knew what each other was comfortable with, so there was never any worry of, ‘Am I able to do this because I don’t want to make that person feel uncomfortable if they’re not OK with it?’"

Daisy actually found the sex scenes quite easy to shoot.

She told The Sun on Sunday newspaper: "Strangely, those scenes were some of the least challenging once you kind of got the first few under your belt.

"You knew exactly what you were doing … so there wasn’t much room for nuance. Whereas, with a big, long dialogue scene, you might start one place but you know your character is going to journey to a very different conclusion by the end."
