Kelvin Fletcher reflects on teenage triumph at British Soap Awards

Kelvin Fletcher is still humbled by his British Soap Awards triumph as a teenager.

The former ‘Emmerdale’ actor – who first joined the soap as Andy Sugden in 1996 – was just 15 years old when he won the Best Dramatic Performance prize in 1999, and he still remembers the night fondly.

Sharing a snap of the ceremony on Instagram, he wrote: "1999 British Soap Awards I was nominated and made the final 4 shortlist for Best Actor and walked away with Best Dramatic Performance.

"No child awards or categories back then, I was a 15 year old actor up against the adults and people I had long admired and inspired to follow.

"To be even in the same room as them was humbling let alone receiving such recognition. To this day still one of my proudest moments. (sic)"

Kelvin, now 36, urged other aspiring actors to "keep believing" in themselves and chasing their dreams.

He added: "To all the young aspiring actors out there; keep believing in yourself even when at times it seems nobody else does.

"Perseverance and Patience is key. (sic)"

The ex-soap star spent 20 years on the ITV show, before moving on in 2016 – and although he’s keen to return to his roots, he wouldn’t be opposed to joining the ‘Coronation Street’ cast.

He previously said: "I’d love to go back to a soap. ‘Coronation Street’ would be great."

Although there are no firm plans at the moment, Kelvin actually has a family connection to ‘Corrie’ after his younger brother Brayden Fletcher made an appearance last year.

He tweeted at the time: "Who saw my little brother @Brayden_Fletch making his tv debut on @itvcorrie last night? He did great! Very proud!"
