Margarita Pracatan dies aged 89

Margarita Pracatan has died at the age of 89.

The singer – who was best known for her appearances on ‘The Clive James Show’ – died from heart failure on Tuesday (23.06.20), her daughter Maria Gorshin confirmed to Sky News.

Pracatan found fame in the 90s, when she appeared on James’ hit TV programme, and she also performed on the BBC Night Network, as well as BBC Radio 2.

In recent years, Pracatan lent her talents to the US TV show ‘The Real Housewives Of New York’.

She was active on social media amid the coronavirus lockdown, posting a video of herself singing earlier this month.

In the video clip – which was posted on June 12 – she is "enjoying everyday life".

Pracatan captioned the post: "Canta y no llores – be happy! Why? It’s good for your heart and your espirit!! #joy #loveyourlife #EnjoyingEverydayLife. (sic)"

BBC Radio 3 presenter Matthew Sweet took to Twitter to pay tribute to the late star, describing the Cuban singer as a "social media star before social media".

Matthew wrote on the micro-blogging platform: "Sorry to hear of the death of Margarita Pracatan, social media star before social media. We got her live on @BBCRadio3 once, to the faint annoyance of Clive James. In 2017 I saw her live in Catford & was delighted to discover she still considered the right notes unnecessary. (sic)"

Pracatan’s passing comes less than a year after her former co-star died.

In November, the Australian broadcaster passed away aged 80, having been diagnosed with leukaemia back in 2010.

United Agents said in a statement: "Clive died almost 10 years after his first terminal diagnosis, and one month after he laid down his pen for the last time.

"He endured his ever-multiplying illnesses with patience and good humour, knowing until the last moment that he had experienced more than his fair share of this ‘great, good world’."
