BBC bosses ‘want Maya Jama to sign a money-spinning deal’

BBC bosses want Maya Jama to sign a money-spinning deal that would stop her joining a rival broadcaster.

The 25-year-old star is currently one of the most sought-after talents on British TV and there are reportedly concerns about the prospect of Maya being poached by other channels.

A TV source said: "Maya is seen as one of the biggest stars on the box right now and could easily go on to be as big as Holly Willoughby.

"At the moment she’s tied to the BBC with her Saturday night show and the door remains open for her to return to Radio 1.

"But other major channels would also love to have her so the BBC know they need to make sure they don’t lose her.

"She appeals to a younger audience and has a massive following on social media too so she ticks a lot of boxes for the BBC."

In recent weeks, Maya has impressed TV bosses and viewers on ‘Peter Crouch: Save Our Summer’.

And the BBC is confident she’d be able to turn her hand to an array of different projects.

The insider told The Sun Online: "Maya is a straightforward no-nonsense person.

"She has a lot of strings to her bow. She is massively clued up on music, sport and can also turn her hand to serious topics as well. There are lots of projects the BBC would love to have her involved in."

In May, Maya walked away from her presenting job on BBC Radio 1, after two years on the station.

She said via Instagram: "My loveess, I’ve made the very difficult decision not to continue my Radio 1 contract from June.

"As you know I have been juggling & There are a lot of exciting commitments happening that would mean I’m not able to dedicate the time needed to my weekly radio show.

"I’ve loved every moment of my time at Radio 1 and I would like to thank the team for their hard work and friendship during the last two years. It’s been a JOURNEY. (sic)"
