Nigel Havers: ‘Don’t Wait Up is too posh for BBC’

Nigel Havers says the BBC won’t screen his sitcom ‘Don’t Wait Up’ because it’s "too posh".

The 68-year-old actor – who played newly single GP Tom Latimer in the 1980s British TV comedy – wishes the BBC would play old episodes to entertain people during the Covid-19 lockdown.

He told Radio Times: "That would cheer people up. They don’t repeat it because they think it’s too posh. The BBC has been nothing but doom and gloom. The public need support and optimism."

Meanwhile, former ‘Coronation Street’ star Nigel recently said he believes his former castmates "must be going stir-crazy" during lockdown.

ITV soap bosses suspended filming due to the coronavirus pandemic, and the ex- soap star – who played Lewis Archer from 2009 to 2019 – admitted the situation would have taken some getting used to for the cast and crew.

He said: "’Corrie’ is full on. I think they probably can’t believe they’re not acting.

"They’re not used to not working and must be going stir-crazy, but they’ll get the hang of it!"

Nigel – who was filming a new drama when production halted due to the health crisis – has kept busy, and his upcoming BBC antiques programme ‘The Bidding Room’ has occupied his time with voiceovers despite filming already being complete.

He added: "I’ve pretty much done everything! I just want to keep working and keep doing things that I like doing.

"Staying alive is always an achievement, especially today."
