Jason Flemyng glad to ‘never be in fashion’

Jason Flemyng is glad he’s "never been in fashion" because he’s avoided being typecast.

The ‘Save Me’ actor – who is also known for his roles in the likes of ‘Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels’ – admitted he’s grateful for the opportunity to explore the roles which really interest him instead of chasing blockbuster projects.

He exclusively told BANG Showbiz: "If you’re never in focus, you’re never out of focus. I’ve managed to keep going because I’ve never been in fashion, so I’m never out of fashion.

"That’s a great thing in a way, you don’t have those huge peaks unless they’re a group thing but you also don’t have those big troughs.

"Because of that, apart from the gangster geezer stuff – which I’ve probably done 20 or 30 times – I’ve never been put in a box. I’ve been really lucky.

"But, if I was to choose something now – because of the kids and the family, I’ve lost that wanderlust. I’m not really interested in making a couple of grand a week anymore, for now."

The 53-year-old star recently appeared in Batman prequel series ‘Pennyworth’, and while he was delighted to be part of such an amazing show, the financial aspects made for a tough experience on set.

He explained: "Whenever you’ve got money, you’ve got pressure and it’s contagious.

"A lot of people are s****ing themselves on the set of ‘Pennyworth’ because the money’s s****ing themselves, the writing’s not sure, the actors are nervous. It spreads like wildfire.

"So the pressure is a lot greater – but the fiscal reward is a lot greater. Even though I’m proud of ‘Pennyworth’, I think it’s great – but it’s a money job. You do that, you make your dough, you send your kids to a nice school, you buy your holidays."

Although Jason has lived out his childhood dream on "big sets", he admitted he’s happy to have the freedom to take on projects like ‘Save Me’.

He added: "I will say, ‘Pennyworth’ and those big sets, that’s what I dreamed of when I was a kid.

"When I did ‘X-Men’ or ‘League of Extraordinary Gentlemen’ – when I grew up, that’s what I dreamt of, going onto those sets with Sean Connery and five camera crews. That’s the f***ing absolute dream! One that I’m hugely appreciative and blessed to be allowed to do.

"But 30 years in, I can’t keep pretending that I’m just so excited to be on set. It’s a job – it’s what I love, but it’s my job. So jobs like ‘Save Me’ are a tonic!"
