Sally Metcalfe ‘won’t let Yasmeen go to prison’

‘Coronation Street’ star Sally Dynevor says her character won’t let Yasmeen Nazir go to prison for attacking her evil husband Geoff.

The 57-year-old actress plays Sally Metcalfe, who has grown suspicious of her father-in-law, as Alya – Yasmeen’s granddaughter – insists he was abusing Yasmeen before she retaliated.

Sally recalled how her character was previously falsely imprisoned, suggesting it will make her determined to achieve justice for Yasmeen.

She told ‘This Morning’: "Remember, Sally spent time in prison for something that she didn’t do, so there’s no way she will allow Yasmeen to spend years behind bars for something she didn’t do."

Sally also admits the harrowing storyline will change her relationship with husband Tim, who believes his father is innocent.

The veteran soap star – who first appeared in ‘Corrie’ back in 1986 – said of her on-screen marriage: "This is really going to be affected because he’s on Team Geoff, and I was on Team Geoff but now I found out about what’s going on, I’m going on to Team Yasmeen.

"I think Sally would want to help her as much as she possibly can."

ITV bosses recently confirmed the soap will resume filming on June 9, after taking an enforced production break due to the coronavirus pandemic.

And Daniel Brocklebank has confessed he "can’t wait" to get back on set.

Responding to the announcement on Instagram, Daniel – who plays Billy Mayhew – said: "Yay!!!!!!!!!! I can’t wait to get back to work & see you all (from a safe distance of course) (sic)"
