Two Doors Down returns for 5th series

‘Two Doors Down’ is to return for a fifth series.

The hit sitcom – which is written by Simon Carlyle and Gregor Sharp – will be back on BBC Two next year with the original cast for a new six-part series, which will be filmed once lockdown restrictions have been lifted.

It follows Beth (Arabella Weir) and Eric Braid (Alex Norton) who try to avoid their neighbours after they take advantage of the couple.

Steven Canny, executive producer with BBC Studios, said: "We’ve been cruelly torturing poor Beth and Eric for the last seven years and couldn’t be more delighted about having another go.

"’Two Doors Down’ is a brilliant show to make, a genuine delight from start to finish, and I can’t wait for the audience to see what we have lined up for series five. Some overbearing neighbours may be involved."

Shane Allen, the BBC’s controller of comedy commissioning, added: "The audience popularity across BBC Two and iPlayer has led to huge affection for a show that now rubs shoulders with ‘The Royle Family’ and ‘Gavin and Stacey’ as a firm and long lasting sitcom favourite.

"The writing is so precise, the characters burst with comic vitality and the performances are a masterclass in comedy delivery."

The series – which began as a New Year’s Eve special for BBC One Scotland in 2013 – was picked up by BBC bosses in 2016, and the fourth series was broadcast in February 2019.

It also stars Elaine C Smith, Doon Mackichan, Jonathan Watson, and Jamie Quinn as regular residents of the fictional Glaswegian street of Latimer Crescent.

Kieran Hodgson, Graeme ‘Grado’ Stevely and Joy McAvoy – who joined the sitcom in series three – will also be reprising their roles.
