James Argent wants to ditch reality tag and be known as ‘celebrity wedding singer’

James ‘Arg’ Argent wants to rebrand as a celebrity wedding singer.

The 32-year-old TV star rose to fame on ‘The Only Way is Essex’ in 2010 and has since taken part in various reality shows including ‘The Jump’, but now he wants to ditch his reality star status and be known as a nuptials crooner instead.

He told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre Column: "Instead of being James ‘Arg’ Argent Reality TV Star, I want to be known as James ‘Arg’ Argent The Celebrity Wedding Singer."

Arg and his band have appeared at several events, including serenading his on/off girlfriend Gemma Collins on ‘This Morning’, and a regular spot at Olivia’s Restaurant in Marbella.

He said: "We’ve had some big gigs before performing on ‘This Morning’, the Brentwood Festival and also opened up for Rick Astley at Paddy and Christine McGuinness’s charity night for autism.

"This is my passion now and I want to do some big concerts, whether it’s just me and backing tracks in Marbella or with the band in the UK."

The idea came to him after he was inspired by 2018 movie ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’, which told the story of Queen frontman Freddie Mercury, who abused drugs and alcohol before dying in 1991 aged 45 due to complications from AIDS.

Arg revealed last week he had been battling a cocaine addiction, which led to him suffering two near-fatal overdoses in 2019.

His first came in October when he locked himself in his house and took drugs for "three days straight" in pitch black, and he suffered another overdose two months later when paramedics broke his door down and told him how he nearly died.

He added: "I was really inspired after watching ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’.

"That’s the moment I knew I had to bring The Arg Band back together."
