Paul Mescal to join celebrities taking part in a Mario Kart showdown for CALM

Paul Mescal and Daisy Edgar-Jones are set to take part in a celebrity ‘Mario Kart’ showdown for CALM.
The ‘Normal People’ stars will take on the likes of comedians Jon Richardson, Iain Sterling and Seann Walsh, sports stars Tyrone Mings and Anthony Watson, musician Tom Grennan, fitness coach Bradley Simmonds, and Youtuber Joe Sugg in the ‘Mario Kart’ event, which will see the stars raise money in support of suicide prevention charity Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM).
‘CALM Lock-In: Mario Kart Edition’ will take place on Tuesday (19.05.20), where the celebrities will go head-to-head on fan-favourite racing video game ‘Mario Kart 8’, with fans able to tune in to watch the races through Instagram Live and Twitch.
The event takes place during Mental Health Awareness Week, and is aimed at raising money through donations to support the running of CALM helpline services which are currently experiencing record demand during the coronavirus pandemic.
CALM CEO Simon Gunning said in a statement: "Over the last few weeks, we’ve seen people need CALM and our services more than ever before. We know that lockdown has been incredibly tough, so we wanted to do something that would give people a fun evening and help take their mind off everything else that’s happening at the moment – even if just for a few moments – whilst also raising awareness of the CALM services that can be an added support when life gets tough .
"CALM is here for anyone who needs help and our free and confidential helpline and webchat are open seven days a week from 5pm- midnight. If anyone is struggling and would like some help visit thecalmzone.net for ways to support yourself and others."
‘CALM Lock-In: Mario Kart Edition’ takes place between 7pm and 9pm on Tuesday, and can be accessed through the individual celebrity’s Instagram Live, or alternatively via streaming platform Twitch at https://www.twitch.tv/thecalmzone.
