Coronation Street insists soap will retain its sense of humour

‘Coronation Street’ boss Iain MacLeod insists the soap will retain its sense of humour when filming eventually resumes.
The ITV soap suspended filming in March due to the coronavirus pandemic – but Iain has promised that when the cast return to set, it’ll be a case of "business as usual".
He told Metro.co.uk: "The virus will exist but we’d be keen for it not to dominate everyone’s lives. It’s the only conversation in my house – but people don’t want to see that as the only topic of conversation on screen.
"We will see it reflected in how businesses are run, hand washing and the way people behave but we will still tell dramatic storylines and a dollop of comedy as we don’t want to lose what the show is.
"Our storytelling is business as usual. ‘Coronation Street’ won’t stop being funny, not on my watch!"
Meanwhile, ITV boss Kevin Lygo recently admitted ‘Emmerdale’ and ‘Coronation Street’ will run out of episodes in the coming weeks.
The Head of Studios confirmed that ‘Corrie’ has enough instalments to remain on air until the end of June.
Both soaps – which are among the most-watched shows on ITV – have cut down on the number of episodes screened weekly due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The popular programmes were both forced to suspend filming in March and at the moment, it’s not yet clear when their casts will be able to return to their sets.
