Charlie Brooker says his Wipe format is suited to life in lockdown

Charlie Brooker thinks his ‘Wipe’ show is suited to life in lockdown.
The 49-year-old star is reviving the comedy review show from the comfort of his sofa, and Charlie admits that unlike a lot of TV programmes, the concept "actually works pretty well under lockdown conditions".
Charlie – whose ‘Wipe’ show is returning for a coronavirus special on May 14 – told the Radio Times magazine: "People would say, ‘I can’t wait to see what you say about a particular event’. So this seemed a good one to do.
"We’re just swapping a studio for a room in my house. I’m finding the lockdown side of it fairly easy because really, I’ve been in training for years. I don’t go to the pub much, I’m quite a home bird."
Charlie also revealed he’s been limiting the amount of TV he watches amid the lockdown.
The comedy star explained that he was sick of "watching one depressing event after another".
Speaking about his ‘Wipe’ series, he shared: "I was getting sick of having to relive the previous 12 months, watching one depressing event after another.
"So I can absolutely understand that it’s a sensible thing to do for people to ration their exposure to news at the moment. It’s like taking vitamin C: it’s only helpful up to a point, beyond which it can become dangerous."
Meanwhile, the BBC recently teased details of Charlie’s ‘Antiviral Wipe’, saying it will take a "sharp look at life in lockdown".
The broadcaster revealed: "Charlie will be taking a typically sharp look at life in lockdown, in a show made during lockdown.
"As well as coverage of the crisis itself, he’ll also be looking at the things people are watching and doing to keep themselves occupied."
