Coronation Street’s upcoming episodes will not mention coronavirus.
Filming has been paused on the ITV soap and fellow serial dramas amid the pandemic, and while there is thought be enough episodes in the bank for the show to air until the summer, albeit with a reduced weekly output, it is not thought they will include any references to lockdown and social distancing.
A source explained: "They were finishing scenes that had already been written, so there are no references to social distancing and the like.
"As the episodes won’t air until the summer they wouldn’t have known – and still don’t know now – what the situation is going to be by then."
But cobbles fans may well see some of their favourite characters reference the pandemic later this year.
The source added to The Sun Online: "Once production begins again then the writers can decide how to reference the pandemic – hopefully in the past tense."
‘Coronation Street’ producer Lindsay Williams recently reassured fans the soap won’t be scrapping many storylines due to the pandemic.
She wrote: "We are currently looking at the best way to start filming again whenever lockdown is lifted and luckily been able to keep so many of the brilliant stories we were planning to play over this year, so we’re really excited about what’s to come."
Lindsay revealed the cast and crew even managed to get some last- minute scenes shot before the UK went into lockdown.
She added: "On the last Friday before we halted production we actually shot 7 scenes in just a few hours with some amazing work by the cast who had learned the scenes a few hours earlier.
"It really went to the wire but we managed to get everything we could possibly shoot finished and edited in record time.
"I think everyone left the building feeling really proud and privileged to be part of ‘ Team Corrie.’ "
