Piers Morgan donates £10k to NHS Covid-19 fundraiser

Piers Morgan has donated £10,000 to a WW2 veteran’s fundraiser to help NHS staff battle coronavirus.
The 55-year-old television presenter was moved by Captain Tom Moore, 99, who is attempting to raise money by walking the length of his garden 100 times before his 100th birthday on April 30, and decided to help him reach his target goal.
Appearing on ‘Good Morning Britain’ on Monday (13.04.20), the veteran soldier revealed he has reached 78 per cent of his target and raised £391,000 so far.
Piers said: "I want to get you over the line today! I want to get you over the line, here’s what I’m going to do Tom, I’m going to put £10,000 of my own money into your fundraising today, and I hope that encourages everyone watching at home to do the same, to be as generous as they can, little or small, big or large, whatever they can do – let’s get you over the half a million!"
Captain Tom told Piers and his co-host Susanna Reid: "Thank you! It’s been lovely to speak to you and Susanna.
"I feel it’s absolutely fabulous people have been so kind to give so much money to the National Health Service, because if you’ve ever been in hospital, you’ll know all the trained staff are bright-eyed and bushy tails to answer their duties.
"They must be a little apprehensive because they don’t know what’s going to happen but they’re in for a pretty tough day. But by gosh, they’re brave."
Viewers watching at home were astonished by Piers’ generosity and took to Twitter to praise him for his huge donation.
One fan wrote: "Nice one @piersmorgan £10k WOW. #goodmorningbritain #GMB."
Another tweet read: "That is a superb gesture from @piersmorgan #GMB."
Whilst a third added: "@piersmorgan Thank you Piers Morgan! You are a true gent. There are no other words to say! From a proud and exhausted NHS worker #GMB."
