Joe Wicks snubs TV offers to keep fitness shows on YouTube

Joe Wicks has turned down television offers to keep his fitness shows open to everyone.
The 33-year-old health guru – who is widely known as The Body Coach – launched a series of exercise classes for kids to do from home to ensure they’re still getting exercise despite UK schools closing due to the coronavirus pandemic, and he has snubbed the chance to land his own permanent TV show.
Appearing on BBC Radio 2, he explained: "I have decided I want to stay on YouTube because I want it to have a global reach.
"I don’t want to be exclusive to one place. I have been blown away by the response."
His comments come after Channel 4 reportedly tried to get on board with talks over a new daily workout programme.
An insider recently said: "Channel 4 have worked with Joe previously and were straight onto him once they saw he was going to be hosting live workouts daily.
"His YouTube streams have been watched in their droves, so they have offered him a deal to host a daily show for them which would be aired to the nation to get kids, and adults, moving every morning."
In 2018, the star hosted two series of ‘Joe Wicks: The Body Coach’, and the channel are said to have been keen for him to be involved as they rework their schedule amid the ongoing pandemic.
More than two million people tuned into his YouTube channel ‘The Body Coach TV’ for the first free 30-minute session at the start of last week.Joe first thought of the idea after Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced schools would close to help limit the spread of the respiratory illness.
He was due to visit schools across the country to teach children about exercise, but it was cancelled after the announcement.
Joe explained: "Late last week I was in bed thinking, ‘How can I reach all these kids? They’re going to need some help.’ I felt quite emotional about it. Then I came up with the idea of PE with Joe."
