Queen Elizabeth mingles with journalists

Britain’s Queen Elizabeth mingled with journalists at a charity event yesterday (07.05.14).

The monarch celebrated the 150th anniversary of the Journalists’ Charity, which supports journalists and their families in need, and mixed newspaper editors, broadcasters and senior media executives.

The 88-year-old royal and her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh, attended the event at Stationers’ Hall in London and Prince Philip joked with young reporters that they "don’t get paid enough".

The event, which also saw the Culture Secretary Sajid Javid attend, recognised the achievements of the Journalists’ Charity, which has been in operation since 1864 and the Queen is a patron.

Laurie Upshon, the charity’s chairman, said: "The visit cements a connection that goes back 150 years.

"The Royal Family have been very good supporters of the charity since the very start, Queen Victoria actually donated £50 three times."
