Roman Kemp backs dad Martin for I’m A Celeb

Roman Kemp wants his dad to take part in ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ this year.
The 27-year-old radio presenter came third on the ITV jungle reality series last year and is backing his famous dad, Spandau Ballet bassist Martin Kemp, to head Down Under in 2020 ahead of him turning 60 in 2021.
Speaking to The Sun’s Bizarre TV column, Roman said: "My dad is nearly 60 and I want him to be on that show on his own."
The Capital Breakfast host recently admitted his time in the jungle allowed his own personality to shine through after living in the shadow of his famous parents.
Roman – whose mother is former Wham! backing singer Shirlie Kemp – said: "I could totally be myself. I came out of the show and it was crazy. And it kind of hit home that I wasn’t Martin Kemp’s son anymore. Or even Roman Kemp. They said to me, ‘You’re the name on the back of your jungle shirt. You’re just Roman!’"
Which is why he wants his dad to take part in the reality series, to see him out of his comfort zone.
He added: "I think it’s something you have to do on you own and having the comfort of family is not part of the show."
The ‘Gold’ hitmaker agreed: "It is about missing people, being without a phone, living on your own, discovering who you are."
Meanwhile, the father and son duo are set to host their own chat show next month (19.04.20) titled ‘Martin & Roman’s Sunday Best!’.
The show will feature celebrity chats, live music performances, appearances from up-and-coming comedians, and the pair playing a host of games.
Roman said of the upcoming programme: "I get to work with my best mate. He and I just go through everything together. We shout, argue, cry together. But any opportunity to work with him, I take it."
