Bill Oddie’s home under ‘rat invasion’

Bill Oddie’s home has been infested with "at least 30" rats.

The 72-year-old TV presenter – who has developed a reputation as an ornithologist and conservationist – was forced to call pest control to his Hampstead home in north London to deal with the nuisance rodents when he found they’d "invaded" his property and garden.

He wrote on Twitter: "Rat invasion. At least 30 in garden. Mainly young. Climbing, jumping, tumbling. Quite entertaining, BUT. Called the Pied Piper. (sic)"

It is not yet know if the pest control experts were able to deal with his rat problem.

Oddie – who lives with his wife Laura Beaumont, 61, and daughter Rosie, 26, at the London house – is best known for presenting ‘Springwatch’ between 2005 – 2008 which was broadcast live from locations around the UK and documented British wildlife during the changing seasons in Britain.

It had a prime time evening slot on BBC Two and although Bill left in 2008 he return for a guest appearance in the penultimate episode of the 2010 series.

More recently he undertook an Australia tour where he visited Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth in a series of one-off shows, ‘An Oldie but a Goodie’ – a reference to his 1970s comedy sketch series ‘The Goodies’.
