Libby Clegg: Dancing on Ice put me in the best shape ever

Libby Clegg is in "the best shape ever" since joining ‘Dancing on Ice’.
The 29-year-old Paralympian – who has 11-month-old baby Edward with fiance Dan Powell – has lost "eight kilos" of baby weight simply by training for the ITV skating competition with professional skating partner Mark Hanretty.
She told The Sun Online: "After having Edward it’s been great to get back into shape again. I’m literally in the best shape I’ve ever been in.
"I’ve lost a lot of weight, about eight kilos. And I’ve toned up more because after having a baby your body feels horrendous. My joints weren’t attached to my body any more – it was hideous!"
What’s more, the ITV show has motivated the sprinter to get back in the groove of things when she starts preparing for the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics.
She continued: "It’s been great tightening up again. When I go back to athletics training I’ll be in a really good position."
Libby – who has no central vision or perception of depth because of her deteriorating eye condition, Stargardt’s Muscular Dystrophy – skated her way into the final last week as the first blind contestant on the show.
To help find her way around the ice, Libby has to memorise the rink and any obstacles by creating a map in her mind.
She added: "I create a map in my head of where boundaries and certain obstacles are, so I just try and memorise all those really small details.
"I recognise and observe things you wouldn’t really notice on a daily basis in my normal life, so I try to do that on the ice rink as well."
However, Mark "forgets" his skating partner is blind and admitted there are times where he leaves her "stranded".
He confessed: "I’ve forgotten at inopportune times where I have left Libby and realised she is in the middle of the ice rink and left her stranded, so that’s not the best. I do forget because she has so many coping mechanisms."
