Kem Cetinay has become good friends with Piers Morgan thanks to his ‘Soccer Aid’ goal last year.
The 23-year-old reality star built bridges with the 54-year-old TV presenter after Piers branded him a "dimwit" and insisted he could never be friends with the ‘Love Island’ winner.
They bonded over ‘Soccer Aid’ in June when Kem scored an equaliser that earned the team – which was managed by Piers and Harry Redknapp – a penalty shoot-out win.
Kem told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre TV column: "I really like Piers and I asked him before the game, ‘What have I got to do for us to be friends?’ and he replied, ‘You need to score a goal.’ That’s why when I scored I ran over to him and gave him a big hug.
"We’re good friends now – I wouldn’t go so far as to say we had a bromance – I wish it was. I’ve got his phone number and probably no other Love Islander has."
The ‘Good Morning Britain’ host dubbed Kem and his ex-girlfriend Amber Davies "dimwits" in 2017 after they took over Richard Arnold’s entertainment news slot whilst he was on holiday.
Piers told Richard: "In your absence apparently these two ‘Love Island’ dimwits stood in for you.
"The ones with the funny names. I didn’t think anyone could lower the bar from you but they managed it."
However, after the charity football game the pair made amends with Piers hailing the win as the "greatest night of my life".
But Kem believes it was all down to his skills that made his night.
He added: "I would like to think it was me and my goal that gave Piers the best night of his life."
He will return to ‘Soccer Aid’ later this year (06.06.20) in a World XI team featuring Olympian Usain Bolt, comedian Mo Gilligan, and footballers Patrice Evra, Jaap Stam and Roberto Carlos.
They face an England team made up of musicians Olly Murs and Danny Jones; women’s footballers Casey Stoney and Kelly Smith; and comedians Lee Mack, Tom Davis, Joel Dommett, and Russell Howard to raise cash for Unicef.
