Prince Charles’ chickens killed by fox

Britain’s Prince Charles’ chickens have been slaughtered.

The 65-year-old royal was forced to temporarily close his Close Farm organic egg business in Tetbury, Gloucestershire, after a fox attacked his chicken coop, killing 24 of his prize birds.

The thrifty heir to the throne – who also owns farms in Windsor, London and Bath – is passionate about organic produce and sells the produce in the farms’ shops.

According to the MailOnline, egg enthusiasts in Tetbury were dismayed when they were greeted by a sign informing them they would have to get their protein elsewhere.

The message read: "Dear Customers, The fox killed 24 of our chickens now the rest of the surviving chickens have been brought to a more secure location. This will mean no more eggs to sell, sorry, regards."

This will no doubt come as a blow to the Prince of Wales, who invested around £100,000 in his organic retail business when he moved it from his nearby Highgrove Estate to Tetbury.

His home delivery Veg Shed initiative also shut down last year after the cold spring ruined the vegetable crop, and he has yet to revive it.

However, his Duchy Originals brand – which he founded in 1990 – has proved popular since it partnered with a Waitrose in 2009, with £2.8 million of all profits going to charity each year.
