Matt Smith is "really jealous" of new Doctor Who Peter Capaldi.
The 31-year-old actor who played the Eleventh Doctor in the sci-fi series left the programme after four years playing the titular Time Lord in the 2013 Christmas special and is envious of the ‘The Thick of It’ star who has taken over the role and the excitement he will be experiencing ahead of his debut series.
Speaking at the recent Calgary Expo panel in Canada, Matt said: "I rang (showrunner) Steven Moffat up the other day and found out everything about the new series. It sounds really good! I was really jealous actually."
He hopes Peter’s portrayal isn’t "better" than his but insists that every actor who has been cast in the coveted role has a "different" take on the character.
Talking at Wizard World Minneapolis, Matt joked: "Will he be better than me? I hope not."
He added: "He’ll be different, and it will be a different show and it will be a new show and that’s what ‘Doctor Who’ is about, and I’ve got to let it go. And the great thing about it is everyone has their own Doctor. So, hopefully, there’s a few eight or nine-year-olds out there who I’ve claimed."
