Julia Bradbury has hit back after being called "the walking man’s crumpet."
The 49-year-old presenter was given the nickname after many years presenting outdoors and nature-based programmes, but she’s now spoken out over the lack of female representation in the industry.
Speaking to the Daily Mirror newspaper, Julia said: "I’m perfectly capable of accepting and laughing at certain labels that I might be given.
"I think it was amusing, but also very wrong."
The former ‘Countryfile’ presenter took the opportunity to open up about her concerns for women facing similar issues across the globe who fail to get recognised for their work.
She added: "If you look globally, women are still massively underrepresented. In the movies, one in three [Oscar-nominated] films are directed by women. If you look at women in power, again only a fraction of male representation."
What’s more, the mother-of-three – who has eight-year-old son Zephyrus and four-year-old twin girls Xanthe and Zena with her partner Gerard Cunningham – plans to teach her children to respect others after facing sexism.
She added: "I go out to work and they benefit from that… but, most importantly, I want to teach them about respect for human beings."
Meanwhile, the ‘The Greek Islands with Julia Bradbury’ star previously admitted her kids see her "waking around naked all the time", and she believes it is important to teach her children about body image.
Speaking about baring all in a naked photo for charity in 2018, she said: "I think you need a healthy attitude towards nudity. My kids were proud of the image – they saw it. It doesn’t mean anything to them as they see me walking around naked all the time.
"They are far too young now to be talking about body image, but it does key into that in these early stages, and the, ‘What are the differences between boys and girls and men and women?’ It’s not something that bothers me."
