Piers Morgan’s ‘awkward’ Love Island praise

Piers Morgan says Shaughna Phillips’ praise of him was "awks".
The ‘Good Morning Britain’ presenter has been openly critical of ‘Love Island’ and its contestants, but during last night’s (16.01.20) episode of the dating show the 25-year-old beauty admitted she is a big fan of his appearances on the ITV breakfast programme.
Taking to Twitter on Friday (17.01.20), Piers wrote: "Yesterday, @susannareid100 wrote a column about how much she adores Love Island & how great all the contestants are….
"I never watch it & regularly call all the contestants ‘brain-dead zombies.’
"So last night’s @LoveIsland was…well, I believe the vernacular phrase is ‘awks’."
Both Shaughna and her fellow Islanders Connagh Howard, 27, revealed they only tune into ‘Good Morning Britain’ when Piers is on air – Monday to Wednesday – and the 54-year-old broadcaster wasted no time in responding last night.
He quipped: "Treat ’em mean, keep ’em keen. #LoveIsland. (sic)"
His comments come after he insisted his sons – Spencer, 26, Stanley, 22, and 19-year-old Albert – would be scrapped from his will if they ever decided to go on the reality show themselves.
He recently said: "My sons get regularly approached for these shows but they know I’ll write them out of the will if they go on."
Piers has been very critical of the show and its hopeful romantics, included joking that they aren’t "able to count to 10".
He previously ranted: "Tonight’s challenge is going to be they’re asked to count to 10 and to name their favourite colour.
"They will then be asked if they can remember their answer an hour later.
"It’s going to be great fun. We’re going to get the Love Island contestants’ views on everything from Donald Trump’s state visit to Brexit."
