Catastrophe’s Sharon Horgan reveals whether characters died in finale

Sharon Horgan didn’t intend for fans to think her character died at the end of ‘Catastrophe’ when she wrote the finale.
The 49-year-old actress – who played Sharon Morris alongside co-writer Rob Delaney as Rob Norris on their Channel 4 sitcom – has opened up about the "ambiguous" ending to series three last year, which saw the pair drifting offshore.
Asked if the characters died during an appearance on tonight’s (10.01.20) episode of ‘The Graham Norton Show’, she said: "No. I mean, maybe.
"It was supposed to be ambiguous. You could take it as that. Rob always thought there was a slightly dark ending possibility, but I always thought they made it back to shore.
"They’d had a fright, but they made it back. It’s supposed to be both and to give you hope as well as fear for their future."
Sharon and Rob confirmed the show was coming to an end before the start of series four – which aired early in 2019 – and she previously admitted they felt it was the right time to bow out while people were still enjoying the programme.
She explained: "We’ve been doing it for a long time – from the start of it to now it’s probably six years – doing a show that we absolutely love, and getting to a point where we thought, ‘Well, what if we can’t think of something that’s original and funny anymore?’
"I would say writing episode four was maybe the hardest one in terms of coming up with stuff that felt original or new or like we had something new to say. So I think we just felt like, maybe, quit while we’re ahead."
