Hollyoaks’ Gregory Finnegan: Parry departure was a ‘lowlight’

Gregory Finnegan says it was a "lowlight" when Parry Glasspool left ‘Hollyoaks’.
The 39-year-old star – who is nominated for the Serial Drama Performance accolade at the National Television Awards – enjoyed his character James Nightingale reuniting with Harry Thompson (Parry) earlier this year, but he was sad to see the star depart the Channel 4 soap when his alter-ego was murdered by serial killer Breda McQueen (Moya Brady).
He said: "James has been on wild ride these past twelve months.
"Jarry getting back together and their ultimate demise was a huge part of this year for me and a definite highlight and something of a lowlight too as Parry left us."
James recently moved on with Liam Donovan (Jude Monk McGowan) in a shock romance, but Gregory admits his lawyer character hooking up with the local gangster has been beneficial for him because he loves starring opposite Jude.
He said: "Our cast are all so much fun to work with but the new found romance with Liam has meant I’ve done a lot of stuff with Jude who is a great actor and a lovely guy."
As well as Gregory being up for the Serial Drama Performance gong, his co-star Imran Adams (Mitchell Deveraux) is nominated in the Newcomer category, and ‘Hollyoaks’ itself is up for the Serial Drama prize, and Greg thinks it will be an "incredibly tight race" this year.
He added: "Well I hope we win as I think the show has had a great year but I’m sure it’s going to be an incredibly tight race … so please vote!"
‘Hollyoaks’ tasted huge success last year, scooping Best Soap at the British Soap Awards and the Inside Soap Awards, and Gregory is hoping some former ‘Hollyoaks’ viewers will return to the soap follow its recent awards.
He told BANG Showbiz: "It’s been a good year. It’s been surprising, I think for everyone concerned.
"We felt like we’d had a good year but for that to be recognised at various award shows is great.
"We’ve lost out a lot of times, so to start winning a few is lovely.
"I hope they’re coming back, if they did leave the show at any point, and seeing that we are doing good work that is up there with all the other soaps.
"It’s not just a 6.30pm kids show. It can be for everyone.
"We’re at top of our game and hopefully that will continue."
