Michael Barrymore makes emotional appearance on Dancing On ice

Michael Barrymore got emotional as ‘Dancing On Ice’ got underway.
The veteran TV star was forced to drop out of this year’s series after his broke his wrist during training, and he found it tough being in the studio for the programme’s launch on Sunday night (05.01.20).
Speaking between the evening’s dances, he told hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield: "I was sat watching the show, and it started… it got to me a bit..
"Also, to reconnect with the audience, people in the streets cheering me on."
In a pre-recorded clip, the 67-year-old presenter and comedian opened up about how much competing on the show would have meant to him.
He said: "Sometimes you have to give up what you love. hen you get the opportunity to do it again you realise how much it really means to you."
During the first episode, viewers also saw the moment Michael got injured as his pro partner Alex Murphy skated through his legs.
He lost balance and damaged his wrist in an attempt to break his fall.
The pair were both at the side of the rink last night, and they reflected on what might have been if it wasn’t for the injury.
Alex said: "My heart is broken, I really wanted you to get to do it."
Although his journey ended quite quickly in disappointing circumstances, Michael had only good things to say about the experience as a whole.
He added: "Thank you for asking me, it’s been an amazing journey and I’ve loved every single moment of it."
Former ‘Blue Peter’ presenter Radzi Chinyanganya has taken his place on the programme.
He previously commented: "I am thrilled and privileged to be part of the Dancing On Ice 2020 cast.
"I am absolutely gutted for Michael, who is one of my all-time favourite TV presenters, and I wish him a speedy recovery.
"I’ve only got two weeks to get ready to ice skate in front of the nation so I’m looking forward to a Christmas and New Year filled with training on the ice."
