Liz Carr slams BBC for not featuring disabled actors in new trailer

Liz Carr has slammed the BBC for failing to feature any disabled actors in their new trailer.
The 47-year-old actress – who plays Clarissa Mullery in ‘Silent Witness’ – pointed out the issue when she spotted that the BBC One show didn’t make the cut in a two-minute long trailer showcasing all the upcoming shows on the channel for 2020.
Liz – who has the genetic condition arthrogryposis multiplex congenita and has used a wheelchair since the age of seven – told the Daily Mirro newspaper: "Weird I’m not in the opening trailer but more weirdly, ‘Silent Witness’ doesn’t feature in the current BBC1 trailer for upcoming shows.
"As far as I can tell there isn’t a disabled person in the trailer either. BBC needs to do better."
Her comments come after the BBC promised to deliver a "more authentic and distinctive" representation of disabled people back in December, while the broadcaster has responded saying they made an editing mistake and have now featured Liz in the trailer.
Meanwhile, the actress is determined to continue protesting for disabled actors, after being knifed in 2017.
Liz and her carer were assaulted by a male armed with two pairs of scissors whilst leaving the WHY? Summit on Euston Road.
She had been hosting a conversation on how the arts and sport can be used to empower marginalised and misrepresented young people before the attack.
But later that day, Liz ended up in the hospital after the man had lunged towards her and stabbed her in the head.
Though she was later discharged after suffering "minor cuts".
A friend of the actress said at the time: "There was blood everywhere but she was very lucky that the wound grazed her head and she was not more seriously injured.
"Typically, Liz is putting a brave face on it – joking that it was like being attacked by Edward Scissorhands."
A man in his 20s was arrested at the scene on suspicion of grievous bodily harm.
He was taken into custody at a north London police station and has since been sectioned under the Mental Health Act.
