One Direction songwriter scouted for Britain’s Got Talent

A One Direction songwriter has been scouted for ‘Britain’s Got Talent’.

Ed Drewett – who co-wrote the band’s hit single ‘Best Song Ever’ – has been fast-tracked to the show’s semi-finals and it is reported he is already wanted for Simon Cowell’s Syco Records.

An insider told The Sun newspaper: "Simon is keen to sign Ed to his Syco record label but wants him to gain exposure on ‘BGT’ first.

"Ed is a mate of 1D too, so they’re likely to tweet in support during the live finals.

"The move raises big questions about the audition process and highlights how many acts are scouted, rather than apply in the normal way."

As well as his song for the superstar boy band, he has also penned hits for The Wanted – ‘Glad You Came’ and ‘All Time Low’ – and wrote Olly Murs’ track ‘Dear Darlin”.

Despite having huge success with those tunes – and being signed with Polydor and Virgin – he was allowed to apply after Simon changed the TV talent show’s rules in 2012.

A source added that while he auditioned in front of Alesha Dixon, Amanda Holden and David Walliams in February – with the media mogul out of the country for the birth of his son – he explained his background to the panel.
