Brendan O’Carroll dismisses idea of making a ‘woke’ show

‘Mrs Brown’s Boys’ creator Brendan O’Carroll has ruled out making a ‘woke’ show.
The 64-year-old actor – who plays the foul-mouthed matriarch Agnes Brown on the hit programme – has revealed he’s dismissed his ten-year-old grandson and co-star Jamie O’Carroll’s pleas to use the show to highlight climate-change issues.
Brendan told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre TV Column: "He cornered me in my dressing room and said ‘Grandad, I need to talk to you about the environment and how your generation are not doing enough’.
"I wrote it in a script where somebody said to Mrs Brown, ‘Your generation has f***ed up this planet’. But it never made an episode, as I thought, ‘No, it’s too serious.’"
Brendan also confessed to having some issues with Jamie’s pleas.
He said: "Our generation were doing it right, it’s the disposable generation who are ruining the planet.
"Everything is disposable now, even furniture. We had a couch all our lives, they change their couch now like they change their wallpaper. We recycled bottles and washed out nappies.
"We had the right idea back then."
Meanwhile, in December, Brendan told critics of ‘Mrs Brown’s Boys’ to "change the f***ing channel".
The veteran star insisted he doesn’t give a damn about negative comments about the show.
He said: "Just change the f***ing channel.
"Honestly, I put on my dress and my t**s and go out and make people laugh and I come off, take off my dress, take off my t**s, get into the shower, come out and as soon as I come out of the theatre, I don’t even think about the show.
"The evidence of four NTA awards means people are not just liking it – they’re actually prepared to stand up and shout it."
