Kate Garraway finally returns to GMB

Kate Garraway was surrounded by alarm clocks as she returned to ‘Good Morning Britain’ today (20.12.19) – after oversleeping yesterday (19.12.19) and missing her scheduled comeback.
The ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ star was all set to return to co-host the breakfast news show with Ben Shephard yesterday only for her to oversleep, and ‘GMB’ bosses poked fun at her today by placing a number of alarm clocks on her desk as she finally did return.
Speaking on today’s show, she said: "I’m sorry about yesterday.
"It wasn’t that I couldn’t be bothered to get up … I famously have six alarm clocks at home.
"What happened is, [my son] Billy wasn’t well so I put him to bed. I fell asleep fully dressed with my boots on still, still had my makeup on.
"I woke up at 5.40. I’m so sorry because I was so excited about coming back."
Kate’s jungle campmate Adele Roberts also gets up early for her Radio 1 show, and joked she will do a "late Kate" if she ever oversleeps for her programme in future.
Speaking in a video message, she said: "Hi Kate, I’ll be honest with you, I’ve been finding it a bit hard to get up at 2am, but I was thinking of you and all the inspiration you gave me in the jungle. ‘Never missed a day Garraway’ we used to call you.
"20 years of getting up, never missing a day, setting six alarms, sleeping in the spare room. ‘And then I saw this [Kate’s Instagram post apologising for oversleeping].
"So from now on, if I’m ever late for Radio 1, I’m doing a late Kate. That is my new method, you absolute legend."
Elsewhere in the show, Kate revealed she had lost "a good stone" while taking part in ‘I’m A Celebrity’.
She said: "As always, it comes off the bits you don’t want, doesn’t it?
"There’s still plenty of thigh, we don’t need to worry about that … and bottom."
Kate feared she might get the sack yesterday after oversleeping.
She wrote on Instagram: "Oh no – disaster – overslept on my 1st morning back at work on @gmb . Fell asleep last night fully made up with clothes on and contacts in – didn’t set alarm . Woke up looking like this !!!??!!! Can’t believe it – am going to get fired first morning back! And to think @adeleroberts & @romankemp we were talking about this in the jungle and I was proudly saying I had never overslept enough in 20 years to actually miss a show !!!! That’s karma !!!! (sic)"
‘GMB’ hosts Ben Shephard and Ranvir Singh, who stepped in for the star, rang Kate when they were on air to ask her what happened.
Speaking at just after 6am on ‘GMB’, she said: "I’ve still got my shoes on. I fell asleep and the next thing I know it was like 20 minutes ago.
"I’ve never done this in 20 years.
"When we were in the jungle I was so smug because I was saying, ‘I’ve never overslept and missed a show.’
"Because I get up so early that even if I’ve overslept it’s still only like 3.15. And I’ve done it now.
"I’m going to get fired. I’m in total shock."
