Andy Whyment calls for Corrie co-stars in jungle

Andy Whyment wants Simon Gregson and Alan Halsall to compete on ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here’.
The ‘Coronation Street’ actor was a late entrant to this year’s camp and ultimately finished second, and he had such a great time, he’s keen for his co-stars to get involved too.
However, while he thinks Simon would be "amazing" in the jungle, he thinks the actor – who plays Steve McDonald – would find it tough because it’s such an "intense" environment in camp.
He told the Daily Star newspaper: "I think Si Gregson would be amazing in there, but I don’t know whether he would be able to handle it because it is really, really intense."
The 38-year-old actor is also not convinced Alan – who plays Tyrone Dobbs – would enjoy the experience either because of jungle rations.
He added: "I’d love Alan Halsall to go in there but he’d struggle because he was veggie for years."
Andy recently admitted he is glad the reality show has let people see him for who he really is, rather than as his character, Kirk Sutherland.
He said: "It’s been a mad experience. There were so many highs, and a few lows. I had such an amazing time.
"It felt weird. I’ve been in ‘Coronation Street’ for 19 years and when I’m walking along the streets people say, ‘Oh, there’s Kirk.’ But to know people have got behind Andy Whyment it just meant so much to me and I’m really humbled by that."
Andy – who has kids Thomas, 11, and Holly, nine, with wife Nicola – also vowed not to let his increased fame change him.
He said: "I’ll still remain myself. I’ll still go to Asda on a Friday, do the big shop with Nic. But I know I’m going to get recognised a lot more now, which is, don’t get me wrong, is nice, but it certainly won’t change me.
"I’m looking forward to getting back and just getting into my normal, boring life of just sitting on the sofa, getting home from work, closing the front door and watching telly."
